Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hopefully I don't take time and find at the end I'm charged here. So on Saturday if this past week (November 14th) I was seen in the ER after discovering a terribly painful "red raw oozing belly button" no fever but had also just stopped an antibiotic treatment after 4 days due to a sensitivity and taken a difulucan. I a very clean person ..and due to a past abdominal surgery leaving a small "divot" at the bottom of the belly button I use a q-tip and clean out that area after each shower. The "Nurse practitioner" at the ER was rude to say the least never said it is "this" bacterial yeast etc just wrote two antibiotics both oral one cephalexin 500mg 4xd and Bactrim DM 800mg 2xd which caused issues (as a child it was a rash so I always said it was an allergy but they felt after this amount of time and skin issues then beyond that it was safe also had used bactrim intranasal ointment pre lumbar fusion I was told us a sulfa drug as well by the practitioner. Now Friday 5 days of antibiotics twice daily cleaning inside with alcohol swabs dipped in alcohol and a light cover to catch any drainage. It is still a yellow with blood discharge but the odd pain under with a slight lump and more strange a sensation of discomfort running into my (what feels like) urinary tract.. No infection signs there burning etc to think I have acquired a UTI. My concern is although it seems a bit better in appearance it still is very painful still having discharge and the other odd additions. Please help! I do have a clindamycin gel left (from a few months ago for what I was told was acne and was not) is it safe to put a bit in the belly button to help healing along OR should I simply continue the antibiotics and wait it out? Thanks in advance
