Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Been diagnosed with viral gastroenteritis. Symptoms started 3/11 and ended up in the hospital on 3/15 for rapid breathing, severe cramping, bloating and dehydration. They gave me IV fluids and Zofran for the nausea. Started feeling better, just overall weakness and then last night the symptoms came back with severe abdominal pain, chills, bloating, and dry heaves for almost 4 hours. Is this a normal process of recovery? Been taking a colon cocktail of Gaviscon, Rolaids and such to control acid and staying hydrated. 60 year old male. No other serious medical history. Just concerned about these flare ups.
The symptoms are suggestive that the infection phase is still undergoing on the process in the body as these are the signs of inflammatory mediator response from the body.
In my clinic, I keep the patient admitted for supportive IV fluids, correction of electrolyte imbalance, IV antibiotics and other supportive care to get the best results.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr Purva Patel, General & Family Physician
