Hi,I am Dr. Amitkumar Sharma (Internal Medicine Specialist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
myGi doctor wants me to do a test to see if i have C Diff. I was in the hospital December 21 and 22 for ischemic colitis. I have still been having issues.. I woke up yesterday morning with same symptoms that put me in hospital in December. My other doctor who has been treating me for autoimmune and lymes put me on vancomycin shortly after my hospital stay because we did stool samples and she said i had an infection in my GI tract that she thought to cause the ischemic. I am sorry i am not sure if she said i did have C diff or if it was a different infection. I did call her to ask but waiting her call back. So my Gi wants me to do the test for C diff but will the test results come back correct if i am on vancomycin?
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
Antibiotics play a crucial role in the pathogenesis of Clostridium. Anyway, the treatment consists of Vancomycin. So even if you do the test, the results are only for diagnosis in this case and the treatment won't change.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Dorina Gurabardhi
