How Can A Bruised Toe Be Treated?

I dropped a large can of fruit on my exposed toe. The toe has since been sore to the touch and walking is difficult. In addition, the toenail is partially black. I have put ice on it and then soaked it in warm epson salt today. My toe does not feel any better. Does it sound broken? Should I do ice or warm soaks?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

It looks like you need to get an X-ray done to rule out any fracture, sometimes hairline fractures also cause swelling and pain. Toenail is partially black because of the formation of blood clots within, put ointment Thrombophob locally to get relieve.

You can take Tylenol for pain, keep your affected feet at rest. Keep the foot elevated on a pillow or a stool. Ice packs are effective to reduce pain, take care.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Nupur K.
