Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have what I believe is some sort of callus or some sort of skin irritation on my right thumb. Every so often it builds up & I peel off the top layer. once I do this it feels like a needle is pricking me all the way to the bone. the spot is normally about 3mm in circumference. Could this be a wart or something of that nature. When it is in the callous stage it dosent hurt
Calluses or hyperkeratotic tissues, are the results of abnormal pressure on a bony prominence. The skin reacts to the pressure by building up extra layers. The callus can be softened with emollients, removed and/or debrided sharpely; however, due to the underlying bony prominence - it will likely always return. I typical recommend bag balm, urea cream and/or Salicylic acid as topical medications.
If the callus is due to a wart, intractable keratosis or other disease process - it may be removed by a procedure or chemical destruction.
