Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
During a follow-up medical exam for an extended cold (a 5 day course of antibiotics just completed) with a nurse I was told I have a deviated uvula and should go to an ER right away. During this extended cold/flu (4-5 weeks) I ve experienced incomplete swallowing of food, 95% goes down, maybe 5% lingers (no discomfort, but requires that I bring the unswallowed food back up and re-swallow) accompanied by a change in the characteristics of my voice. I m an otherwise healthy 71 year old male, don t have medical insurance and don t quality for medicare. Whats my best course of action? Thank you!
A deviation of the uvula often means that there are motor nerve lesions on the opposite side to the deviation. I suggest a visit to a neurologist for further examinations to confirm the diagnosis.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
