Dear sir,Madam.. I got a bite from a dog a week ago ..it is a properly vaccinated dog. It was just a scratch only.. but I was already having a small open wound in the same finger where I got the scratch from the dog s teeth.. I m scared wthr my wound came contact with it s saliva.. is it necessary to take vaccination..? Can it b taken even after a week ,,Will it help?
Hi, If you are sure about the vaccination status of the dog, then I don't see any need for your vaccination. And if you are able to see the dog without any symptoms for 10 days, then vaccination is usually not recommended as per most of the guidelines. If you are not sure of vaccination status of the dog, rabies vaccination may be required. And yes it can be taken anytime after the bite, but sooner the better as it is not effective after the disease manifestation. Apart from this, general wound care and tetanus immunisation (if not done within the previous 5 years) is essential. I would also advice you to check whether the above recommendations is in line with your local rabies control guidelines. Usually it differs from one region to another. I hope the above information helps you. Thanks for writing into healthcare magic.
