How Can A Dog Scratch Be Treated?

my 3 month old pet dog scratched my 8 year old son. The puppy is not vaccinated for rabies as yet. Our pediatrician advised to take rabipur. The 1st dose was given. The puppy seems healthy. Can we stop the vaccination just after 1 shot? are there any side affects because of stopping, now or in future? are the vaccines for pre and post bite the same?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Since your son has taken the first dose of Rabipur vaccine, he should be given remaining three doses as per the schedule on days 3, 7 and 14. If your pet dog remains healthy after 10 days and doesn't show the signs and symptoms of rabies, then there's no need for the fourth dose on day 14.
If you stop giving remaining doses of Rabipur, this vaccine may not be effective against protecting rabies. The vaccines for both pre and post-bite are same, however, for pre-bite only three doses are given. Please see that your pet dog is vaccinated against rabies regularly.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
