Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My puppy scratched my arm two days ago. There was no blood flow, but the scratch is almost 5cm long. He is 3 months old and has been regularly vaccinated and de-wormed. I wiped the scratch with antiseptic, as soon as he scratched it. Does it need more medical attention?
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
The scratched area needs to be kept clean. Please wash it with soap and water twice a day, and apply an antiseptic cream like Mupirocin ointment. This would help the healing of the wound in about 5 to 7 days.
If you find signs of inflammation, then you may need to take a short course of antibiotics. In such a case, please consult a General surgeon, who can examine the scratch and advise you on the antibiotic cover if required.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Ajit Kumar Varma
