Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have a ganglion cyst on top of my foot. I ve had this issue for several months. My doctor has given me cortisone shots and advised I change my footwear. He say he cannot aspirate the cyst because its located between the tendon and joint. Cortisone shots last one day. I m in constant pain. What is the alternative if all else fails? I feel at this point that changing footwear etc is a temporary fix. I have to wear my sneakers with tying them but the pain is terrible. Any advice?
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice. If the pain is very severe and affecting your lifestyle, I would recommend removing it surgically. If you strictly want conservative therapy then maybe supportive orthoses and RICE treatment will be beneficial but may not prevent recurrence. With surgery as well recurrence is an issues but at least you wont have the mass any more and if the mass returns then you know exactly what it is.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Samuel Parmar
