How Can A Hairline Fracture Of The Leg Be Treated?
Hi my 3 year old son has a hairline fracture at the bottom of his leg. Our local A&E put an emergency cast in him last Tuesday, we attended the fracture clinic Thursday where he was given a support boot. My boy is totally freaked by the boot and will not wear it at all, he still won t put any pressure on his leg as said it s hurting. He is now complaining that his knee is hurting where he is crawling his way around. I wish they had left the cast on him.

For a hairline fracture to heal minimum requirements are: • Cast for around 3 weeks which is a minimum period • Least weight bearing till possible • Balanced nutritious diet • Maintenance of hydration • Calcium supplements • Avoid further trauma • Follow-up x-ray after 3 weeks and further management accordingly
