How Can A Hematoma On The Lower Leg Be Treated?

I have a Hematoma on my lower right leg. It’s been there for at least 6 months. I’m a diabetic, in stage 3 renal failure & have A-Fib. I’m 46yrs old. I was told to keep my feet elevated as much as possible. Getting kinda worried that it hasn’t gone away yet.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Since you have been diagnosed as having a hematoma of the right leg, now since about 6 months, and it is still present, in all probability, it has got organized. Since you are a Diabetic, and have renal failure, your immunity would be low.

In such a setting, the hematoma if not treated can get infected and cause spreading of inflammation. It should be evacuated by formal surgery preferably under local anesthesia, if possible. You should consult a General surgeon who can examine you and do the necessary surgical procedure, and prescribe antibiotics and advise you on other supportive management.

I hope I have answered your query. Let me know if you have any further questions.
Regards,
Dr. Ajit Kumar Varma
