Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
How Can A Hemorrhagic Cyst On The Right Ovary Be Removed?
I have a history of ovarian cysts, including a 25 cm cyst removed in 1993, along with right ovary and tube, due to rupture and torsion. Now I have a hemorrhagic cyst on my right ovary. I am 40. The cyst is approx 3cm and is complex. The report says it has low level echoes, which demonstrates posterior acoustic enhancement (I do not understand what any of that means). I have been in severe abdominal pain for two weeks and do not return to my GYN for another week. We are supposed to discuss surgery. Do you think that I should have surgery? And what does that low level echoes and acoustics mean? Does it have anything to do with higher risk of cancer?
Hi, I think you should do a CA 125 level to see if the cyst is cancerous or not. It will give an indication of the nature of the cyst. If it is high, it can be cancerous. So, better to get it removed.Low level echoes and acoustic shadow means that it is a complex cyst and contains some solid component. It is a symptom of cancerous or hemorrhagic nature of cyst. If it is a hemorrhagic cyst, you can take hormonal treatment for 3 months and repeat a scan after that. Discuss with your doctor regarding this. Hope it helps.
