Hi. Currently my kids (15 month) having liver abscess. It was happen on last month. Doctors had given antibiotics to him so now everything on him was fine but the liver abscess was not reduced after having 6week of antibiotics and now doctors was not giving antibiotics anymore and ask us to wait another 6week to scan the liver again. So the condition was consider stable? And what should we do?
Hi, Thanks for posting in HCM. I understand your concern. Liver abscess is a pus-filled mass inside the liver as a result of bacterial infection. Treatment with antibiotics is the first line, which needs to be followed-up by means of ultrasound scan after the completion of the prescribed course. If the response is not satisfactory, the abscess needs to be drained by inserting a needle and possibly placing a drainage catheter into the abscess to remove the infection-containing pus. Kindly take the antibiotic course as prescribed and do the necessary follow-up with your doctor as advised. Hope the information provided would be helpful. All the best. Regards, Dr.Ashakiran.S., MBBS., MD.
