Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have a pyonital cyst for approximately 20 years now and over the years it will flare up and I had to go to the doctor to get it lanced. Lately it will drain from when I have a flare up. I put something to bring it to a head and it will burst and it bleeds. I have also noticed a difference in the shape of my stool. It is very skinny sometimes it looks like the size of worms or slim snakes. I have seen blood when I get off the commode, but I only see blood when I have a flare up and the pyonital cyst has burst. I have had a colonoscopy in 2013 and I have no family history of colorectal cancer.
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
Pilonidal cyst occurs at the bottom of the tailbone and can become infected. It can cause swelling, redness and burning sensation when infected. In your case, it needs to be examined by a doctor to conclude what is the present status. If is only an infection, it needs to be managed conservatively by use of broad spectrum antibiotics and paying attention to hygiene. If it is infected with presence of one or more sinus tracts, then it needs to be operated by surgery. Subsequent follow-up is necessary. Kindly consult Surgeon in this regard for clinical evaluation and appropriate management.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
