Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I had stents put in my leg a year ago. The latest doppler showed 0 blood flow to my toes. I have a small sore on my toe and the vascular surgeon wants to do a bypass. I want to try and heal this toe. It appears to be healing. I d like to try a hyberic chamber to heal it at a wound clinic. I have stage 4 kidney disease and am reluctant to do the bypass.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice. If the blood vessels are extremely narrowed and the blood flow to your toes has decreased the only way to manage is surgically restore the blood circulation. Local hyperbaric therapy may help to heal the wound by oxygen’s toxic effect to microbs (infections) but adequate blood circulation is important for the organ to fight infections and wound healing. Additionally, when blood flow to your legs are inadequate oxygen and nutrient supply gets diminished predisposing a risk for wound development or not healing current wounds. Local oxygen hyperbaric therapy may help your wound healing but the most effective way of treatment is restoration of blood circulation.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further. Thank you, Malik Amonov MD
