Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What do I do for a brown recluse spider bite? It happened Friday morning and Saturday I went to the local urgent care...the Dr. I saw yesterday told me to rely on folk remedies. I ve been using an activated charcoal paste to try and draw out all the poison. Lavender essential oil and coconut oil, along with aloe to try and calm myself and a rash. Plus benadryl and Xanax. I itch everywhere. My joints are sore. The bite itself isn t getting worse, it does have a hard knot underneath with a hole/pin sized prick ulcer. The knot does seem to be getting smaller. Just thought I needed to get a second opinion.
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
You have got spider bite and symptoms you are mentioning is due to infection due to toxins released by spider sting leading to an allergic reaction. Need not to worry. I would suggest you maintain complete hygiene of the area. You should take the proper course of antibiotics and Ibuprofen and clean with an antiseptic solution.
You should consult allergy specialist or dermatologist once for proper diagnosis. Your allergist may conduct skin tests, blood tests, and skin-prick test and give you steroids injections.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Harry Maheshwari
