Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi, my fiancé thinks she was bitten by a spider on her foot -- it looks like she was definitely bitten by something. And she is now feeling feverish and has a rash on her legs. She has taken some Benadryl and doesn't seem worried, but I'm wondering if there is cause for concern here. Thanks!
1. For most of the people with an insect/bug bite [or bite of unknown origin] following treatment measures are all that is required:
- clean the bite with mild soap and water and apply an antibiotic ointment. - Apply a cool compress over the bite - as the bite is on the foot, elevate the leg - one can take over the counter [OTC] medicine as per symptoms [pain killers and anti histamine] - but if the bite becomes infected, then antibiotics have to be recommended. [avoid scratching the bite area to reduce the chances of infection]
2. If you are unsure about the type of bite get carefully examined by a health care provider. [ since fever and rash are there one has to exclude other infections which can mimic spider bite like MRSA, Lyme disease, bed bug/flea bites]
