Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi,I had slipped and fallen in the shower a week or so again and fear I may have fractured my tailbone. My tailbone is very uncomfortable. I fear going to the doctor may be useless, since there s probably not much that can be done for such an injury. Am I correct in my assumption? I generally try not to take pain medication because of my bad kidneys.
Since during sitting, tail bone comes in direct contact with the surface and transmits body weight. So it is under tension while sitting. This tension gets relieved when one is up and about. It is fairly common to expect weakness in bone in this age group which causes pain while sitting. Stay calm and meet orthopedic surgeon. You may need to get an X-ray of lumbosacral vertebrae to look for any osteoarthritis. He will decide whether to do Dexa scan of bones or not. You definitely need vitamin D and calcium supplement along with painkillers like acetaminophen. Consume regular nutritional diet. Meet orthopedic surgeon.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
