Are Osage orange thorns poisonous? I stepped on one yesterday am that went thru my shoe. I pulled it out and cleaned it right away. Tonite my heel where the puncture wound is, is so sore that I can t step on it. Its slightly hot red and swollen about 10-12 cm around the wound. I ve soaked it and cleaned it really well, and we can see no remnants of anything. Should I see a dr?
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
The way you are describing your wound, there is high possibility of cellulitis (infection of skin). Thorn prick is almost always associated with infection. So better to consult doctor and get done clinical examination of wound. You may need surgical dressing, painkiller and anti inflammatory drugs (ibuprofen and acetaminophen). If not improved with conservative treatment then surgical treatment in the form of debridment should be done.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
