How Can A Thorn Prick Wound On The Finger Be Treated?
YYYY@YYYY I was pricked by a palm tree thorn 9 months ago in my index finger. At first I thought the little spot was an embedded thorn. It is NOT! It is painful to the touch and presents as a tiny circular dark spot. This after 9 months, it wont go away. I have dug at it , in my finger with needle 5 times thinking there is something there, but nothing comes up. As I try to extract it ( like a splinter ). Then after a few hours the spot returns. Point sensitive.
Some advice that I can give to you are:
- Remove the thorn.
- Apply pressure with sterile gauze or clean cloth until bleeding stops.
- Rinse the wound under clean water for several minutes.
- Take Ibuprofen for the pain.
If you can not remove it you should consult a surgeon.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Dorina Gurabardhi, General & Family Physician
