Thanks for contacting with your health concern
1. You can walk in the early stages of '
stress fracture' [not knowing you have fracture], and since the condition didn't worsen nor the pain was too extreme that might be the reason of walking for 10 hours, but now because it is diagnosed you should take following precautions and care:
i. Immobilisation is necessary and if the plaster is applied make sure to keep your muscles active:
- joints that are outside the plaster, should be moved through full range, repeatedly.
- you should concentrate and contract the muscles that are inside the plaster to minimize their wasting and preserve their power.
ii. Avoid putting weight on your on affected leg as it will prevent the fracture from healing and may result in
malunion.
2. keep in mind that
tibial plateau fracture carries a high risk of damage to the
anterior cruciate ligament, collateral ligament, menisci, and articular
cartilage which are essential for knee functioning and although repairable can predispose younger patients to early onset of
Osteoarthritis [OA], consult with your Orthopedic surgeon regarding all the points.
PS. If the doctor is able to reestablish
joint stability, alignment, and articular congruity while preserving the full range of motion, then painless knee function may be achieved and posttraumatic arthritis can be prevented.
3. As tibial plateau fracture is of two types: displaced [surgical intervention] and non displaced [medicine and physiohterapy], thus treatment will depend upon the variety concerned.
