Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi. I have had bulimia for over 25 years and am 43 years old. This started in an abusive relationship. I tend to have a weak immune system and get sick often. In October, I got strep throat. Antibiotics for 10 days. Well, after that I just couldn t stop clearing my throat constantly and it feels like there is something mucousy stuck in my throat. I also have to cough to clear my throat. Swallowing is painful. Even salivia. This feeling never goes away. I have been tested 3 more times for recurrent strep for the pain and red throat. All negative since the first time. I had a barrium swallow that came back negative. I also had an endoscopy done a couple weeks ago and was told I have acid reflux. He took 2 biopsies and have not gotten the results yet. I see him next week. My result discharge paper says: findings results: acid reflux R Barretts. However he said everything else looked normal as well. I kno2 what Barretts esophagus is. Does this mean he found Barretts or just took a biopsy to make sure I don t have it? I was very groggy after the procedure and don t remember much of what he said unfortunately and my husband thinks it s all in my head. It s not. I m scared they didn t find out what was wrong with me and don t want to live the rest of my life like this, in pain and unable to swallow without having to force Salvia down. I m sure the biopsies are going to be normal and the problem will still be there. It s so frustrating. I have read everything going about reflux/ GERD and have made changes. I am not overweight. I exercise everyday as I also have ospeopenia from the bulimia. Do you have any ideas or suggestions for me to ask my Dr.? She thinks it s from anxiety and I know it s not. I do take prilosec for the GERD but it doesn t help at all and I ve been on it for months. I m so upset to have to go through this every day. Please help me. Any advice is so appreciated. THANK YOU!
Barrett oesophagal disease caused due to continuous gastroesophageal reflux disease. there are some modifications in lifestyle and diet will help you.
Stop taking alcohol, caffeine-containing food. Also, avoid spicy food. Reduce tea consumption. Always take medicine with plenty of water. Don't lie down immediately after taking food. At least after 3 hours of taking food.
You can even keep a pillow to elevate head during sleep. this will reduce reflux of acid.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
