What Causes A Lump In Throat With Recurring Strep Throat?
I am a female and over this past summer I have had strep throat three times. I have no tonsils and the strep seemed to leave with two different antibiotics. However, recently, I have started to feel as if I have a lump in the right side of my throat, almost as if something is stuck there. It is hard to swallow, and I often fear I might choke. My throat looks normal, yet the feeling wouldn t go away and doesn t feel like strep again. What else could this be? I thought it could be acid reflux but taking any acid reflux medication does not solve the problem. This issue has been keeping me up at night and causing me to not want to eat.
Understanding your concern. As per your query you have symptoms of lump in throat with recurring strep throat which seems to be due to viral pharyngitis. I would suggest you to consult ENT specialist for proper examination . Doctor may order throat swab test , viral culture test and CT scan to confirm the diagnosis . Doctor may prescribe antibiotics ( amoxicillin or penicillin ) along with anti allergic and anti inflammatory. Doctor may recommend tonsillectomy in case of severe tonsillitis and refer you to gastroenterologist if the problem will be related to acid reflux . For now do warm saline gargles and avoid spicy and heavy food.
Hope your concern has been resolved.
Best Wishes, Dr. Harry Maheshwari
