How Can Allergic Rashes Due To Spider Bite Be Treated?

I am taking prednisone for a spider bite. The bite mark has disappeared, but I developed hives approximately the third and fourth days of the medication. I put cortisone 10 cream on the welts and hives. I take baths with oatmeal and that helps some. The hives returns in the evening most often. Will this subside when I finish the steroid medication, or is there a possibility of another problem?

Hi,

As per your complain developing of hives is pointing towards allergic reaction only and if the bite mark has disappeared then it can be probably due to other causes like allergy to any food or medication and in a few cases even Prednisone can also cause allergy. Bed bugs or skin cosmetics or detergents and soaps can be a cause.

So my suggestion is to once consult a Physician or Allergist and get a blood test done to get checked for any probable causes of allergic reaction..As of now you can take anti allergics like Benadryl or Allegra. You can apply Benadryl ointment over the hives. Do cool compresses over the hives or take cool water bath.
