How Can An Extra Cartilage On The Bottom Rib Cage Be Removed?
I have been told in the past that I have extra cartilage on the bottom rib on my left side. It protruded slightly and I was unable to lay on my stomach on a hard surface because it caused pain. It wasn t a huge issue so I haven t done anything about it, but I am now pregnant and am having frequent severe pain and the bump had shifted about 1.5 inches to the left. I know I can t do anything currently, but would removing the excess cartilage after the pregnancy relieve the pain and prevent this complication with future pregnancies? Also what type of physician would I need to see for this issue?

How Can An Extra Cartilage On The Bottom Rib Cage Be Removed?
Hi, Consult a thoracic surgeon and get evaluated. At this stage, surgery is not recommended and you can take analgesics which is safe during pregnancy. Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further. Regards, Dr. Shinas Hussain, General & Family Physician
