Hi,I am Dr. Amitkumar Sharma (Internal Medicine Specialist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My wife has an open sore, a wound that won’t heal. Cleveland clinic took a biopsy and 2 ct scan, they say it was some kind of infection, but were not very specific. Then talked to another dr that said it wasn’t. Then they said they didn’t find anything with the biopsy and they did an operation to remove the scab and gave me a wound vac then said there was nothing they could do for her. I need help - we need it. There is dead skin, I have a picture. She still hurts and it isn’t getting better
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
If there is nothing found in the biopsy, then it can be probably an infection only and as the sore is not healing, the first thing that you need to do is to get her blood sugar levels checked. If the blood sugar levels are high, then it can lead to delayed healing of wounds and can also lead to increased frequency of infection.
Your wife also needs a course of antibiotic and along with it, a collagen dressing can be done that has to be changed every 5 days. It helps in healing the wounds faster. Also if sugar levels are high, then it has to be immediately controlled. You can consult a general surgeon in this regards and get her treated appropriately.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Honey Arora
