Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi, I am 29 weeks pregnant and am mildly anemic. I was told to take an iron supplement-325 mg of ferrous gluconate, but wanted to try something more natural and was told I could. I have been taking RainbowLight ferractiv amino acid chelate 150 mg for a few days now but have diarrhea and some intermittent nausea. I was on a curry leaf iron about 100 mg and had same issues but no improvement in heme levels. I am concerned that I have been taking too much because I cannot gauge how much elemental iron is in either supplement. I am 150 lb. Should I be concerned? I am unfamiliar with amino acid chelate iron. Thank you.
Hi, I think you can take iron rich diet like pomegranate, spinach, apples, beet, gram and jaggery. You can take some iron tablets like oroferXt or Hemfer XT. You can try syrups also. If haemoglobin is below 7.5 , you need to take iron injection for improving Anemia. Get a peripheral smear for Anemia, stool test for ova and cyst, and complete blood count. Hope it helps.
