Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My son is almost 22. He was born tongue tied. Two weeks ago an Ent performed a procedure to clip the tongue. He was told that stiches would not be necessary. He received stiches. He was unable to swallow for almost 3 days...had great difficulty taking in nourishment for over a week and did a lot of drooling. When I aksed the ent at the visit where the stiches were removed he said he had never heard of anyone drooling after this type of procedure. The tip of his tongue is numb, and when he speaks a lot he feels nauseous Is this normal?
It is not necessary that the Frenulectomy surgery will never require stitches as many a times if the tongue tie is not just partial then complete tongue tie correction will require stitches post correction. Secondly drooling and difficulty in swallowing can be due to inflammation that will get better as the healing will proceed.. Numb tip of tongue can be due to injured terminal nerve endings that will also get better soon. So as of now a course of antibiotics and anti inflammatory painkillers like Ibuprofen and doing warm saline gargles will help. If still there is no improvement consult an Oral Surgeon and get evaluated..
Hope this helps..
Regards..
