Hello,
Managing arterial
hypertension involves taking a lot of measurements to make sure that the blood pressure is consistently higher than it should. Transient elevations of the blood pressure should not concern you or your doctor. If you do have this kind of blood pressures all the time though then perhaps changing the regimen can be considered.
Various potential causes of worsening have to be eliminated including the following:
- other medications: for example NSAIDs are common causes of hypertension worsening.
- acute conditions like pain or other important symptoms
- increased salt consumption
In patients like you, I usually recommend serial measurements of the blood pressure (at least twice a day) for a week or so. If the mean values are above normal then I usually add another drug to the regimen. It goes without saying that low salt consumption and a healthy lifestyle have to be adopted.
At this point, a
diuretic sounds like a good option. Your doctor should determine the best plan for your particular case though.
I hope I've answered your query. Please let me know if you need further assistance.
