How Can Blood Pressure Levels Be Kept Under Control Without Medicines?

Hello, I take both Lisinopril and Amlodipine for high BP. I am experiencing some of the side effects and I m worried. I am overweight. How can I get to the point where I no longer need these medications? Can I stop taking them while I m working on losing weight? What foods can I eat that will lower my BP naturally? Thank you, Lucinda

General & Family Physician 's  Response
hi,
welcome to Healthcare magic. I understand your concern.
Once blood pressure medicines are prescribed by a physician... they should never be stopped all of a sudden voluntarily. If at all needed to withdraw.. a physician's advise & vigilance is essential.
Still one can try to lower the dose to minimum( again under treating physician's care) with few life style changes like-
-Loosing weight - by diet control ( low caloric diet avoiding excess of salt & spices help in management of HBP/ exercises/having active life & avoiding sedentary work & excessive sleep./ treatment of conditions like diabetes, thyroid problems,PCOD- which are known ti increase weight as well.
- About withdrawing of blood pressure while trying to loose weight - it's generally not advisable, the dosage can be lowered gradually under expert guidance.... still treating physician's opinion should be accepted
Thanks.
