How Can Blood Sugar Levels Be Controlled?

My mother is n the hospital and is having a hard time keeping her sugar levels normal she isn t or hasn t been a diabetic s her sugar levels keep going down to 40 47 43 then they give her dextrose or and glucose then she gets severe leg cramps right after the her sugar levels are normal then they drop in an hour or 2 they don t know what is happening so they keep trying the same thing over and over with the same results

First the units you are using are very important I assume you are using mg/dl which indicates that it's very low.
most people have a problem of high blod sugar level. but your mum has now sugar level
To assist let's get the basic principles
Blood sugar is due to good we eat which is converted into glucose This glucose give use energy when pushed out of blood stream by hormone called insulin from pancreas.
Now when you have low blood sugar may mean two things.
First. not taking enough food to give you sugar
second. May have you much insulin pushing your glucose into muscles
Third. Abnormality in starch to glucose metabolism
Investigations
Close follow up of glucose level in blood before eating and after eating
insulin levels in the body
Consult endocrinologist
