How Can Brittle Nails Be Treated?

Hi How are you? My name is Ciny. I am breaking my fingernails quite frequently, and I wondered if there was a vitamin that I could take to strengthen my nails? Anyone who can answer please. Also, I am on quite a bit of prescription medication that I am sure has some side effects that are not helpful.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello Dear.
Thank you for using Healthcare Magic.

I read your problem and understand your concern. This condition when nails easily become cracked, chipped, split, or peeled, can be observed as a sign of aging or in response to the long-term use of nail polish or exposure to moist conditions (including frequent swimming or dish washing). Some diseases are also associated with changes in the nails, which can include brittleness. Thin and brittle nails can be a sign of hypothyroidism, ferriprive anemia for example.Do thyroid hormone balance test also. Taking Biotin (a vitamin) supplements can help in some cases of brittle nails, and application of moisturizers after soaking in water can also be of benefit.

Best Regards
