How Can Brittle Nails Be Treated?

I hit my finger and the root of the nail has broken and popped up through the skin. The rest on my nail is perfectly fine. It is the back of my nail that got hit. Approximately 1/4 inch of nail is now above the skin as the back of where my nail use to end. Do I need to have this removed?

Hi,

Yes, it is better to get the broken piece removed because if it is present, then it can cause irritation and it will heal haphazardly causing more problems and scarring.

If you get it removed under aseptic precautions, then you will get a new nail without any scarring or infection.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Archana
