How Can Brown Spots On The Face Be Removed?

I had acne during my college days. Now i am 32 years. Have taken treatement for acne, and it is gone now. but my skin is not smooth. I am also getting small brown spots on my face. I checked wiht doctor if i should do laser, doctor said the dents are not big enough for laser treatement. can i get smooth skin?
