How Can Chronic Acne Be Treated?

My daughter is 30 years old. Since she was 14 years old she has had extreme acne. She started taking a low dose birth control pill and it went away almost immediately. Now, she periodically stops the pills to see if the acne has gotten any better. Within 3 days of stopping the pills, her acne comes back with a vengeance. She d like to stop taking the pill and find a natural way to deal with it. Could this be a vitamin deficiency, or a hormone related. It doesn t matter if she s menstruating or not, it s always the same.

Hi,

Female patients who do not respond to standard therapy may benefit from hormonal therapy. Several oral contraceptives are now approved by the FDA for use in the treatment of acne vulgaris (extreme acne).

Acne is not due to Vitamin deficiency. However topical Retinoic acid is used for treatment of acne and Retinoic acid is responsible for most of the activity of vitamin A.

She can try some herbal remedies. It works for some people.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
