How Can Constipation And Flatulence In An Infant Be Treated?
Hi doc, I am breastfeeding my 3 month old, 1st kid. I have constipation and flatulence issues. Was taking cremaffin and would be able to pass motion. Once if I could pass motion on a day, would be able to pass naturally for 2/3 consecutive days without medication and then would miss again. I would feel like passing but nothing comes out except gas on those missed mornings and would feel really uncomfortable. Would take 10 ml of cremaffin at night and on the morn of the missed day, then would pass on the same day or next day. Also the quantity of stool varies and sometimes I feel like some more has to be passed but it won t. I could feel some skin outside the anal opening because of the hard stools coming out. I moved to my native now and gynecologist here suggested duphaloc 10 ml at night, which am taking for last 2 days. I had a normal delivery assisted with forceps and having tailbone pain, for which am using coccyx cushion and rings. Also because of tailbone pain, am advised to sleep on my tummy. I would wake up with a dull stomach pain, which usually eases out as time progresses. I had the stomach pain even while taking Cremaffin also. I am on iron supplements now, my hgb levels are always around 10, even during pregnancy it did not vary. I didn t check post delivery but Dr said I look paler than usual and I have lost almost 10 kgs of which I have gained 8 kgs during pregnancy. I usually have this constipation issue even before pregnancy and would not pass motion once or twice a week. I have kept this at bay with Luke warm water on empty stomach, bit yoga and morning walks. Now am exclusively breastfeeding and could not go for walks or yoga, but taking warm water for drinking, atleast 2 ltrs. I am including spinach in the diet and boiled grams/Channa in evenings, figs and dried fruits, banana - not all of these on same day, but atleast any of these in a day. Please let me know 1. Can I take cremaffin or duphaloc, which is better for longer use, if so how long 2. Is it okay to skip cremaffin/duphaloc on the days that I could pass naturally. I do not want to develop a habit of depending on medication every day 3. Is there any other way to improve my bowel movements naturally 4. Are the stomach pains related to medication or sleeping on tummy, how to avoid the pain? Thanks in advance
