Since your husband is having cough for about 2 months he is suggested to get clinically examined by an ENT. Get swab and sputum tests done. Such symptom can be due to allergy (dust, pollution, pollen, fumes, etc), pharyngitis, laryngitis, acute bronchitis, allergic sinusitis, stress (physical or emotional), etc. Get routine blood tests, investigations and imaging tests done. Get treated at the earliest. You may need antibiotics.
In the meantime, gargle your throat with warm salt water 3-4 times a day. Give voice rest, take antihistamines at bed time. Take semi solid food like oats meal, porridge, custard, etc. To relieve back ache, take Acetaminophen or Combiflam, one SOS after food. Yes, prolonged coughing can trigger backache. Gentle massage with pain relieving ointments and mild stretch exercises can help.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
