Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My nephews son has been diagnosed with croup and has a fever up until this afternoon ... we are concerned about a Christmas family gathering where a lot of children will be present as well as my 82 year old mom who has some breathing issues ... should we be concerned about exposure even though he is on medication now?
Hello dear. Welcome to Healthcaremagic. I read your query and I understand your concern. Viral croup is caused by any virus that infects the voice box (larynx) and windpipe (trachea). The virus that most often causes croup is parainfluenza.
The condition is contagious, especially in the first few days or until your child’s fever is gone. Take care. Hope my answer was helpful, if yes, vote helpful. Regards, Dr Olgeta Xhufka ( general and family physician ).
