How Can Degenerative Discs In Lower Back Be Treated?

I have degenerative discs in my lower back but they have been behaving. Friday nite i pushed a very heavy wheeled cart at work and developed lower back ache, which I thought were just the discs aggravated..BUT a couple hours later I was getting very bad spasm like pain in the tailbone area when I bent over or got up or down and even if I leaned forward to reach for something while sitting...doesnt feel like the normal back aches...I had a pylonodoial (sp?) cyst removed when I was 15...am 52 now...could it be another? There is no lump or irritation in the area but I cant even touch it without pain...thanks
