How Can Diverticulitis Attack Be Permanently Prevented?
About 25 years ago I had my first diverticulitis attack. It was very painful. I went to the ER and was given pain medications and antibiotics. Seven years ago I had my 2nd bout of diverticulitis, was seeping feces into my body. The kept me in the hospital for a few days on antibiotics as I was septic. One month later I had my illium removed. Last week( 7years since my 2nd attack) I had my 3rd bout of diverticulitis. I am on two medications for 10 days, metronidazole 500mg 3x a day and ciprofloxacin 500 mg 2x a day. On my last colonoscopy (3yrs ago) my surgeon said I had developed more diverticuli and would probably need another surgery where I would wear a bag and later have my colon reattached. The last two attacks were very similiar. I was uncomfortable(distended) but not in any real pain. My left side hurt in front and on the back side and I began running a low grade fever. The problem is I have moved. The hospital did not do a cat scan and I am concerned about that. Should I request one? What can I do to not have more diverticulitis?

Have plenty of oral fluids and water.
Consult the Surgeon as soon as you have the next attack so that the treatment will not be delayed.
Go for the surgery at an appropriate time.
