How Can Elevated Blood Pressure Be Treated?

Hi. My name is Steven. I am the primary caregiver for my elderly mother who is in relatively good health aside from being 96. Her memory is mostly shot, and she sleeps almost all the time and does not eat much any more. However this evening her blood pressure is 140/123. Usually its 130/85 give or take. That 123 scares me. She seems very slow and hardly responsive today, more so than has been usual. Its 11pm now and wondering if i need to head up to the ER. Thanks

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

In my opinion you should take her to the Emergency Room.
The diastolic pressure 123 mmHg is very high and she needs a physical examination of the heart and might need intravenous therapy to stabilize her hypertension.

Hope I have answered your query.
Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Suela Gjata,
