How Can Elevated Blood Pressure Levels Be Managed?

last night my bp was 149/118 & 174 bpm. 5 min later it was 154/143 & 173 bpm. it lasted for about 10 minutes. and then I was back to normal. I am on Metropropol 100 mg/day but I was really scared and wasn t sure if I should have gone to emergency. But thank goodness it only lasted 10 min. If this were to happen again, how long should I wait before going to the ER?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

A single episode of short-lasting high blood pressure and elevated heart rate is not too concerning. However, if these episodes recur, you need to consult with your treating physician to assess cardiac status and reconsider anti-hypertensive medication.

Hope this answers your question. Please let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Lekshmi Rita Venugopal, General & Family Physician
