How Can Elevated Blood Pressure Levels Be Treated?

Suppose I have a high blood pressure 150/80 and I take beta blockers to regulate it, and I want to do MDMA (ecstasy). Should I continue taking the beta blockers while I take the ecstasy or will there be any drug interactions between the beta blocker propanolol and the stimulant ecstasy? I’ve heard something about a “rebound” effect do you know anything of this or how it may affect my cardiovascular system with these two drugs?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

My strict suggestion is to avoid ecstasy. It does not matter you are on any medication or not. It is illegal to use this kind of drugs.

If the beta blocker is not controlling blood pressure much, then consult the physician who will either increase the dose or will add another drug.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Hiren Hirpara
