How Can Elevated Cholesterol Levels Be Treated?

My cholesterol level is 269 but my Triglycerides are 126 and HDL level is 68 and Chol/HDL ratio is 4.0, LDL is 176 and non HDL level is 201. Dr. advises a statin. I am afraid to take it; do I really need I?. The only other medication I take is for hypothyroidism and an over the counter vitamin. I am concerned about the side effects.

if you don't have any other major issues like hypertension or cardiac disease, it is possible to lower your cholesterol without statins. if you think you can make the commitment of having a regular work out routine coupled with healthy diet and less fats then try that out and monitor your cholesterol levels, if it works, well and good, just stick to the routine, but if it doesn't then you might need to start the medication since complications of high cholesterol are severe. keep in mind it is possible to lower your cholesterol levels with a healthy routine
