Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi I am 39, and have type 2 diabetes. My periods are normally very regular and last 4-5 days. Recently i had a fall and was given anti-inflammatories which caused internal bleeding. This stopped when i stopped taking the anti-inflammatories (as advised by my Dr). My next period came right on time however 4 days after i finished, i bled again - big time - like flooded with no warning. I took a Primulut N tablet which stopped the bleeding but 2 days later it started again (but not as heavy). I took another Primulut N tablet which stopped it but the next morning it started again. Is this normal..???
Irregular vaginal bleeding warrant a visit with the doctor. This is to have a gynecological examination and try to locate the source of bleeding. The doctor might ask for a pap smear to rule out cervical problems and also a transvaginal ultrasound to check for the thickness of the inner uterine layer (endometrium) and rule out endometrial thickness due to hypertrophy or tumor. If he suspects sexually transmitted infection he may ask for cervical samples for chlamydia, gonorrhea and trichomonas.
Use of Primolut for heavy or irregular bleeding is not recommended as single dose. It is generally take for 5-7 days to stabilize the endometrium and this might be the likely cause of the bleeding recurring in your case.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards, Dr. Antoneta Zotaj General & Family Physician
