How Can Excessive Weight Gain Be Treated?

Hi - I am a healthy 56 year old female and my question is weight related. I am 5'4" tall and weigh normally 126 lbs. I know my hormone levels are fluctuating and my periods are stretching out to about 3 months apart. I exercise every day - running 5 miles every other day and elliptical on the other days. I am having trouble with water retention and weight gain I believe that is related. I have been taking cephalexin (500 mg. x 3) daily for an infected arm cyst for about 7-8 days (almost finished). I take triamterene 37.5 daily, and synthroid .125 mg. I watch my diet and restrict salt. I cannot figure out how to prevent the water retention - I have gained about 3-4 lbs. over the last few days. Thank you

1. as you are on thyroid medication and still having weight issues with menstrual irregularities, consult with an endocrinologist or with a GYN/OBG Doctor since it could be due to a low dose of Thyroxine and probably associated PCOD, Lipid profile and blood sugar problem which needs to be corrected by appropriate examination and investigation [ultraonography] and also they will be in a much better position to understand your case history and order investigations accordingly, till then

2. AVOID: refined carbohydrates (packed cereals, white bread-rice-flour, pasta, cakes ,biscuits, sugar, honey, fruit juice concentrates, ’starch’, watermelon, cantaloupe, pineapple, potato, carrots, dried fruits, ice cream, chocolates, jellies, pizza), and especially Milk which is cause for reduced absorption of thyroxine

.TAKE: fresh green vegetables,whole grains,olives,soy products,whole legumes (peas,beans,lentils),brown rice,oatmeal,barley.

3. To prevent water absorption take salt restricted diet by avoiding pickles, namkeens, namkeen biscuits, chutney, sauce,
