Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My wife has a slight raised temperature of around 37.3c. She started with a sore throat and saw her GP twice. The first time she tested for Streptococcus and can back negative but the doctor thinks it is likely to be bacterial infection and she was put on Amoxicillin. My wife went back three days later with not as bad a sore throat but still the slightly raised temperature. The GP changed the antibiotic to Azithromycin. She only taken that first time last night. Also, on and off she has been taking paracetamol but the raised temperature seems to come back after the drug wears off. The question is should she be taking the paracetamol at all? Other symptoms include runny noise.
As you describe her symptom brings a viral infection in mind. As long as antibiotic has no major effect on treating the disease it is more likely to be a viral infection.
As she is taking Azithromycin she mustn't stop it but she may continue Paracetamol 3-4 times daily till temperature goes to optimal parameters.
Also she must take lots of fluids and have a rest.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr. Suzana Zharri, General & Family Physician
