Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Fever in a small child can be of bacterial or viral in origin. The treatment you have started is correct but if he doesn't get relieved and the fever continues to spike then you should get him checked by a pediatrician. He may run a few blood tests to know the exact etiology of his fever and treat accordingly. meanwhile you should continue with the same treatment and also do cold sponging.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
