How Can Fibrocystic Breast Disease Be Treated?

Hello, my son has cirrhosis and he has developed fibrocystic his breast has become very painful. He has has X-rays and a mammogram . The Dr. Says he is okay. He recently has been told by a home Heath care nurse he could have surgery . Would you have an opinion on this. His GI Doctor won t even give an okay on getting his teeth pulled. His platelet count is 44000 at the highest. YYYY@YYYY

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

With his low platelets, he is at risk of bleeding with any surgical procedure, he would need platelet infusions to bring them up to an acceptable level.

If the pain in his breast cannot be managed medically then surgery may be the only other viable option for him.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Michelle Gibson James
